About Us

First Tackle are an established internet retailer of fly fishing tackle with a retail shop in North London. We hold large stocks of the items we sell and aim to send out 80-90% of all orders received by 4.00 pm the same day.

Making A Purchase

Making a purchase could not be easier. Just browse our website and click on the "Add to Cart" button for any items that you wish to buy (this will put them into the shopping cart). After you have selected the items you wish to buy, click on "Checkout" and you will be asked for a few details that we need to complete the order.

We accept payment by Paypal, credit card, debit card and cheques drawn on a UK bank. If you are shopping from North America or anywhere else outside the UK, your order will be placed in British pounds and your credit card company will convert the transaction to your own currency.

We accept American Express, Visa, Visa Debit, Maestro, Mastercard and Solo Cards. In line with most companies we have a minimum credit card order value of £5.00, please respect this.

The most secure way to pay is online over the Internet.

You can also place your order over the phone. Call us on 020 8455 7778 during our opening hours and we'll be happy to talk your order through with you.

All orders are preliminary until goods are shipped. We reserve the right to refuse or adjust orders where our internet system has displayed, entered or calculated the wrong amount. This has never happened yet but we need to cover ourselves against mistakes.

Delivery Options

We offer two delivery services:

'Standard Delivery' within the UK. A fast service, typically sent using Royal Mail First Class Post. Where possible, items ordered by 4.00 pm are usually dispatched the same day. The cost for this service depends on the size of the item as follows:

Small items are sent 1st Class Large Letter - £1.95 and free on orders over £20.00
Large items are sent 1st Class Parcel - £3.95 and free on orders over £50.00
Extra Large items are sent by a Large Parcel Service - £7.95 and free on orders over £100.00

Delivery can be made to an address other than the cardholders (such as a work address or for sending gifts). We will normally include the receipt with goods unless asked to do otherwise - please use the 'delivery instructions' box on checkout to make such requests.

Delivery Schedule

Orders received by 4pm are typically despatched the same day (Monday - Friday). We aim to dispatch all orders within 24 hours of receipt. (Note: Please expect an additional delay of 2-3 days over bank holiday weekends).

Standard delivery within the UK is normally by first class post and will usually arrive the following day. The main exception is heavy or long items such as waders and two piece rods which may be sent by Parcel Force or similar.

International deliveries are currently suspended.

Christmas 2023.

The recommended last positing dates delivery by Christmas is Wednesday 20th December for 1st Class Post / Royal Mail 24. We recommend placing orders a day or two before to avoid disappointment so our recommendation is to have orders placed by Monday 18th Decemeber at the latest.

We will close over the christmas period from Thursday 21st December until Wednesday 3rd Jan.

All orders placed during this period will be despatched on our return.


Back Orders

We keep large stocks of the fly fishing tackle we sell but occasionally we may sell out faster than we can restock.

If an item is not in stock, we will contact you and let you know the expected delivery date. You will always have you the option to cancel your order if you would prefer not to wait.

Tax Charges

All our prices include VAT.

If ordering from a VAT exempt country, then VAT will be removed at the checkout stage.

Credit Card Security

It is safe to use your credit card to buy on the internet. All our checkout pages are securely encrypted using 128 bit SSL and you will see the 'Golden Padlock' displayed at the bottom of your browser for peace of mind. UK shoppers are currently spending over £10bn a year online and there are no known issues with SSL security ever being compromised.

Our credit card payments are processed by PayPal, probably the worlds largest and best known payment processor.. This provides a much more safe and secure environment than we could do ourselves and means no-one in our organisation ever has access to your card details.


The last thing we want is an unhappy customer so all of our products come with a 30 day no quibble guarantee. If you're unhappy with anything you buy from us simply return it for a full refund.

All we ask under this guarantee is that you return it in its original condition with any manufacturer's labels, wrap it safely and securely and pay for the return postage.

This guarantee does not affect your statutary rights.

Privacy Policy

We fully conform with the requirements of the Data Protection Act, 1998. Personal information is only collected when you place an order, register for our newsletter, or contact us directly by email, phone, fax or letter and we only use this information for normal business practices.

With the exception of credit card processing, all information is collected and stored securely by Top Trout Ltd on our premises. For credit card transactions, appropriate information is collected by our credit card processor, SECPay Ltd, for the sole purpose of authorising that transaction.

We only send marketing information (our Newsletter, etc) to club members and those who have registered to receive it (opt-in). You can register or unregister here at any time.

We do not send random marketing emails to personal email addresses (spam) and we do not share customer details with third parties for marketing purposes.

We use an independent feedback company, FeeFo, to gather customer feedback on our products and services and they will contact customers by email about 7 days after orders have been dispatched. They won't use your email address for any other purpose and the advantage of this system is that all our feedback is from genuine customers and being independent we are unable to change or alter the feedback in any way..

Cookies are used on this shopping site to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart once you have selected an item (these will self delete after 3 hours), to store delivery addresses if the address book is used and to store your details if you select the 'Remember Me' Option.

Data collected by this site is used:
a. To take and fulfil customer orders

British and European law gives strong legal protection to purchasers from our web site:

The Distance Selling Directive gives you the right to cancel your order or reject goods at any time up to eight working days after the goods are received.

The Sale of Goods Act (1979) and the Sale and Supply of Goods Act (1994) makes it a legal requirement that everything we sell must be 'as described', 'of satisfactory quality', and 'suitable for the purpose for which they were sold'.

Any goods that are faulty can be returned for replacement or repair under the manufacturers warranty.

In addition we offer a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee should you be unhappy with anything you buy from us (this does not affect your statutory rights).

The responsibility and cost for returning goods lies with the customer. Goods must be returned in an unused and undamaged state in order to qualify for our money back guarantee.
